For whom nothing is prepared..
“Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
35 yrs ago, I read a tract titled “For whom nothing is prepared”. The Lord spoke to me through this verse as I was making a commitment to serve Him, and since then this phrase has been ringing in my ears. There are two groups of people in India and around the world who fall in this category: those who are deprived of spiritual food and those that are deprived of physical food.
Recently I read this story on Hudson Taylor, the pioneer missionary to China. In October 1857, he began to minister in Ningpo, China, and led a Mr. Nyi to Christ. The man was overjoyed and wanted to share his faith with others. "How long have you had the good tidings in England?" Mr. Nyi asked Hudson Taylor one day. Taylor acknowledged that England had known the Gospel for many centuries."My father died seeking the truth," said Mr. Nyi. "Why didn't you come sooner?" Taylor had no answer to that penetrating question.
Many years ago, I also heard this story from a famous Christian leader in India. One day on the banks of a river in India, a couple with two little baby girls were crying aloud. An evangelist saw them and asked why they were crying. They replied that they have just sacrificed their youngest daughter as an offering with the hope that they may get a baby boy. They already had 3 girls. The evangelist tried to console them and also shared the love of God who sacrificed His son Jesus so that we do not have to offer a human sacrifice to please God. The man cried out, “If only you had come half an hour ago!”
How long have you known the Gospel? I am reminded of the quote from Oswald J Smith – “No one has the right to hear the Gospel twice, while there remains someone who has not heard it once.” How far have you shared it personally? What have you done for those whom nothing is prepared? No evangelists, No Bibles, No Churches, No one who can share the love of Jesus. 310 Unreached Unengaged People Groups, 171 Unreached Districts, 150 Languages with not even a single scripture verse! “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they are sent?” (Romans 10:14-15) Will you go or send someone?
Jesus commanded us – “Love your God and Love your neighbor. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” May the Lord help us to remember those for whose nothing is prepared.
